SERVICES
FOOD SECURITY & LIVELIHOOD
In addition to our Monitoring and Evaluation services, we also provide the following:
Our public health professionals bring extensive experience in food security, livelihoods and social safety net programming. A key aspect of our deliverables, household food security assessments are accomplished utilizing accurate tools such as the Household Food Economy Survey Toolkit and Household Vulnerability Analysis. We conduct our analyses within the framework of a Rights-Based Approach and particularly emphasize the household assessment tools that can identify malnutrition levels (particularly among children), household vulnerability and food insecurity.
We provide comprehensive operational and technical guidance on food security programming based on country-specific situations and community-led planning processes. In addition, we conduct operational research, evaluate food security programs and policy studies, analyze program design and provide support for the management and the implementation of food security information systems.
Our work in this area is grounded on the foundation of sustainability- that is, the understanding that a sustainable livelihoods model of development is people-centered, holistic, dynamic and built upon people’s internal strengths rather than external needs. Such a model promotes linkages and partnerships amongst all stakeholders, ensuring sustainability in the long run.
We have expertise in food and cash programming, using the Protection and Gender frameworks to improve the livelihoods and nutritional statuses of households. We have provided technical support, including program design and capacity building, to USAID’s Food for Peace Title II Food Aid Programming; and supported large-scale proposal development and designed livelihood innovative initiatives in both cash and food programming for USAID’s Multi-Year Assistance Programs (MYAP). JaRco Consulting also provided technical assistance to the Ethiopian government’s Productive Safety Net Project (PSNP) and in the development of food assistance and cash transfer programming in emergencies.
